Travel Information for Cape Verde
Traveling to Cape Verde is simple when you prepare in advance. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months, complete the mandatory Airport Security Tax registration, and check essential health and safety recommendations before your journey. Below you’ll find everything you need to know before and during your stay.
Before You Travel
- Passport: Must be valid for at least six months after your arrival date.
- Visa: Not required for stays up to 30 days for most European, US, and Canadian citizens. Longer stays require a visa.
- Airport Security Tax (TSA): Mandatory for most non-resident visitors. Register and pay online at www.ease.gov.cv at least five days before arrival. The form is available in English, French, and Portuguese. Payment is made by credit card.
- Travel Insurance: Essential for covering medical expenses and repatriation. GHIC cards are not accepted.
- Health: Consult a health professional 4–6 weeks before travel about recommended vaccinations (Hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus) and malaria precautions. Bring your personal medication.
During Your Stay
- Currency: The Cape Verdean escudo (CVE) is pegged to the euro. Euros are widely accepted in tourist areas.
- Cash: Important to carry, especially on smaller islands.
- Safety: Stay aware of your surroundings and take normal precautions to prevent theft. Report any incidents to the police.
- Water: Drink bottled water only. Tap water is not safe to drink.
